Winery and Shopping Tour- Atlantic City, NJ

Published On: Mar 16, 2007

Atlantic City, New Jersey, is a fun place. It's not just the casinos in the boardwalk area either. There's more to this city than the Vegas-like glitter and the promise of sudden riches with a favorable change of fate. Atlantic City is known for some excellent wines made right in the city itself. It is also home to a unique shopping experience in its own right.

So when you tire of the whale watching, dolphin watching, and all the other marine type interests to be found, consider expanding your knowledge of the local wines and indulging in some very interesting and highly satisfying shopping - Atlantic City style. In fact, why not seek out some winery and shopping tours.

The best known Atlantic City attractions wine tour is to the Renault Winery on North Bremen Avenue. This is a 140-year-old fully working winery with guided tours, gourmet restaurant, well-stocked gift shop and the anticipated wine tasting, of course. A trip to this place has been described as being the best Atlantic City wine tour there is. Definitely one of the most enjoyable attractions in Atlantic City!

A tour to this winery commences in The Fountain Room. Here you will find the Greek Goddess Hebe, or a replica at least, installed and holding court. The young and beautiful Hebe was, and perhaps still is, the daughter of Olympians, Goddess of Zeus and Hera. She has the role of being the cup bearer to the Gods, a not inappropriate role for any Goddess in a winery.

The Antique Glass Museum is next. This houses a priceless collection of glassware in the form of wine and Champagne glasses. Some of the collection actually dates from the medieval era. Next comes the Hospitality Room. Here the history of the Renault Winery is told, taking the visitor through the latter half of the nineteenth century, past prohibition, Charleston dancing, jazz saxophones, rock and roll and on to the present day.

The European Courtyard is often bathed in golden sunshine making it a favorite for wedding pictures. It houses a collection of antique equipment once used in the making of wine. The penultimate part of the tour takes you to the Pressing Room. This is where the wines are actually made. Here the wine is continually monitored. It is aged here too. Huge casks made of redwood and oak are used to age and refine this precious product.

The final part of the tour takes place in the aptly named Wine Tasting Emporium. This is the part that most visitors look forward to. Forget all that mouth-swilling and spitting out stuff - enjoy your chance to indulge in the winery's finest award-winning wines and champagnes. This is what most of us go on tour for, so make the most of it.

An Atlantic City shopping tour can be an exciting experience. The Walk is where many of the better shops can be found. In Mays Landing with its one million square feet of space, there's not much in the way of shopping left out. If you're really serious about your shopping tour then your visit should definitely include, the Shore Mall in Black Horse Pike, Siganos Plaza on the Boardwalk, The Pier at Caesars, a stylish quality experience, and The Quarter at Tropicana on Pacific Avenue to take you back to a vintage era.
