Neon lights, slot machines, world class entertainment and cocktails. All of these have become symbols of what Las Vegas is all about. Now you can get a closer view of what it takes to make some of the finest drinks around.
With Hurricane Katrina forcing the Museum of American Cocktail to relocate, Vegas seemed to be the natural spot. The non profit museum is geared towards the education and preservation of the cocktail. The museum goes over the 20 year history of the cocktail starting from the making of the first straw and ending with the Golden Era which ran from 1950-1990's. Of course with a museum that began in New Orleans it only makes a sense that it features tropical drinks and drinks that were originated in Louisana.
Museum founders have donated many of the items that can be found throughout the exhibits. Items include barware, bottles, shakers, decanters and Prohibition era literature. Perhaps the most interesting piece is the distiller's manual from 1797.
The museum even offers special seminars for those that want to take their knowledge of the cocktail to the next level. Monthly topics such as how to make classic cocktails at home and what exactly goes into a top of the line cocktail will be discussed. As a special bonus, a six course cocktail dinner will be served with each seminar and will feature such delicacies as Creole spiced Gulf shrimp, Drunken Quail and Louisana crawfish.
If you have always had a fascination with what it takes to make those amazing drinks or just want to gain a little bit of insight as to why some drinks are so darn popular, then the Museum of American Cocktail is welcoming you to belly up to the bar.
