Published On: Jul 31, 2006 The aura surrounding Vegas embodies glitzy facades, great times and bizarre mixtures. This excerpt details a diverse duo and their exploits at the brazen Bellagio. Meet the Seasoned Poker Pro and the First Timer.
At the Bellagio Casino
Seasoned Poker Pro
A barrage of tables with Hold'Em, Pai Gow, 7-card and just about everything else swarms in a buffet of gamble mania. You've played poker here at least 180 times in the last month, so you know the deal. Maybe you've even got a favorite dealer, time of the day to play or choice table. Heck, maybe you even know Tony G. As far as your concerned this place is all yours. Every time you walk in, the casino concierge greets you with a firm shake and welcomes you back. The only thing different this time is that you're buddy, the First Timer, agreed to go with you after months of trying to convince him it was a "sound investment." How do you show him the ropes? Simple, just start playing a hand, and he'll probably wander off. Before he does, let him know about the free drinks, table minimums and that too much booze can turn a $5 hand into a $500 one.
First Timer
Check out those fountains - mellifluous in all its beauty. Ready for you're first Vegas casino? Blink a few times, shake your head and feel free to execute a double bicep flex. This place is way snazzy. A colorful ensemble of Renaissance decorates the walls. Swivel chairs spin in a leisurely fashion. It's where the big dogs go to bark their heads off, but there's no need to feel intimidated, you'll blend in somehow.
Most likely you'll get caught up in all the flashy lights and hot cocktail waitresses. That's all good. It happens - this is Vegas. Regain your composure, whisk that drool off your collar and get back in the game. If you don't stay focused, you'll end up shoeless picking out cacti from the sole of your feet as you nibble on a buffet of tumbleweed out there in the sweltering heat.
You may want to warm up with a few slots or roulette to up your burl factor. Peep out some lower minimum tables and get situated. Usually the novice tables are generous, meaning the dealers are willing to show you the basics. A couple hands in, and a few frosty ones later and you're rat-pack-high-rollin' like your buddy who just raked in 40 grand on a stellar round of Hold'Em.
