A Chorus LineA Chorus Line - The Musical - Appearing on Broadway in New York City.
Schoenfeld Theatre
236 West 45th Street

A chorus line was a musical that took the world by storm in the 70's, in 1975 it won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony award for best musical. Many fans were sad to learn that it was no longer being performed in a Broadway theater.

Wait no longer, a chorus line is coming back to Broadway at the Schoenfeld Theatre in New York! In case you missed a chorus line last time around, it's a play that depicts the lives of a series of Broadway dancers.

A chorus line certainly was a popular musical, it lasted a staggering 6,137 performances which took 15 years. Chorus line certainly is one of the cult American musicals of all time.

A chorus line was the longest running musical of all time until cats overtook it in 1997, now a chorus line is the forth longest Broadway musical of all time, which is a very impressive claim to be able to make.

Very few musicals can demand such a huge following. For it to be one of the four most popular musicals of all time is simply amazing. If a musical is not popular then it will simply die out and disappear from the stage. For a musical to stay on the stage for 15 years is a real achievement.

On October 4th 2006 a chorus line made its comeback to Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York. It is directed by Bob Avian who was connected with the original 1975 performance.

The new updated performance is based around 17 Broadway dancers and they are auditioning for a new Broadway musical. The director only requires 8 dancers the rest will have to leave empty handed.

All of the hopefuls really want the job, so they sweat blood and tears so that they can perform well enough to stand a chance of getting a part in the musical. It's a very emotional performance to watch.

Before the interview is finished the director of the play asks the hopefuls why they want to be dancers, about their family, and their careers. The answers are sometimes funny and sometimes heart wrenching. This provides an interesting look into the personal lives of Broadway dancers.

Some of the dancers are shy and reserved, while others are much more forthcoming. It's a very interesting and clever performance.

You can purchase a chorus line tickets from the box office, but you should be quick because they sell out soon after release. The musical is performed about 4 days a week.

A chorus line lasts for two hours, there is no intermission and it may be unsuitable for children under the age of 5 years old. Any child below the age of 4 will not be permitted in to the theater.

Chorus line is one of the best loved musicals of all time, it's been gone for about 16 years and nobody has forgotten about it. The hype caused by the comeback show was amazing, why this show ever went off the stage is a mystery. Now it's back and it looks set to stay.
