It may have one of the longest hotel names in San Diego, but the Ramada Gaslamp Convention Center-Historic St James Hotel has also proven to be one of the most attractive as well.
Sitting in the heart of the Gaslamp District, the hotel is now owned and operated by Ramada, but still boasts that same Hotel. St. James vibe. The lobby still features that certain 1913 feel with its crystal chandeliers, marble staircase, and intimate seating area and potted palms.
Some of the best views can be found in the small intimate courtyard that can be found on the hotel's roof. From here you can watch as the sun majestically sets into the deep azure color of the ocean. For those that are afraid of heights, Brian's Eatery features some fantastic views of street actions as well as serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner. While you are there you may want to take special notice of the mahogany bar. The bar used to belong to Hollywood legend Joan Crawford and still features some scuff marks which were made from her getting up onto the bar top and dancing.
Each of the 99 guestrooms feature pillowtop mattresses, vaulted ceilings, cable TV, wireless Internet access and a complimentary weekday newspaper.
For those that are looking for a hotel that not only features the most modern amenities, but also has a distinct historical perspective, then the Ramada Gaslamp Convention Center-Historic St. James Hotel is the place for you.
