Fisherman's Wharf- San Francisco, CA

Published On: Mar 15, 2007

What is the number one tourist attraction in all of the magnificent city of San Francisco, California? You guessed it – the historic Fisherman’s Wharf. And why not? There is mighty intriguing history there to be discovered, as well as some of the most enjoyable things to do while in town, all locked into that one area. The Fisherman’s Wharf boasts some of the very best in dining that the entire city of San Francisco has to offer, as well as music, shopping, and a boisterous nightlife. And for families who are visiting, the Fisherman’s Wharf has some of the best lore surrounding her auspicious beginnings, as well as direct access to much of the educational and recreational treats that the city of San Francisco has to serve her visitors.                      Fisherman's Wharf is one of San Francisco's biggest attractions

Located directly on the waterfront, the Fisherman’s Wharf by herself is a piece of natural history. For many generations, fishermen in the area have made their livings by fishing from the area and then bringing their catches for the day back to sell to the people of San Francisco. Now the site is burgeoning with the descendants of these same fishermen, and also with those who come to partake of their adventures and to see the other attractions that surround the Fisherman’s Wharf site. The Fisherman’s Wharf is certainly a place of much to see and do!

All of the Bay Area cruises leave from around the Fisherman’s Wharf, and those are a great way to see the city and her jewels from the water. You can take a cable car ride through the Fisherman’s Wharf area and ride on a piece of history.

For nature lovers, the Fisherman’s Wharf is a great starting point to discover all of the natural wonders that abound in the great San Francisco area. You can watch the sea lions from many vantage points, and you can certainly hear their barks, usually from several blocks away! The Aquarium of the Bay is a phenomenal place to visit, for the young and the old alike, to see most of the creatures indigenous to the San Francisco Bay area and beyond into the mighty Pacific Ocean.

The National Maritime Museum is also located at the Fisherman’s Wharf. This is the perfect site to visit for those who enjoy American military and naval history, as is the USS Pampanito Submarine Museum. And beyond all of these sites, the Fisherman’s Wharf is itself a treasure of the city to behold and study. Just to imagine the lives of those who made her the star attraction of San Francisco through their hard work and determination many years before, it is indeed a site worth visiting and treasuring.

With all that the Fisherman’s Wharf has been and still is, it is no wonder that this is the number one tourist attraction in all of San Francisco. From the history and the dining to the adventure and proximity to so much more in San Francisco, visitors to the Bay Area will certainly be making this a sure-thing travel destination for many years to come. The Fisherman’s Wharf is at the very heart of both the history and the future of San Francisco, and is a fantastic way to see what the city once was and where she is going in the future.
