Have yourself a BIG treat when in the beautiful city of San Francisco, California by visiting one of the tasty bakery and café sites of Boudin’s (pronounced Bo-Deens) Sourdough Bakery and Café. You will experience one of the very best things that San Francisco is known for- warm and delicious sourdough bread. In addition to this, you will get a little taste of history and culture. So come on by and relax and enjoy at one of San Francisco’s most sought out attractions: Boudin’s Sourdough Bakery and Café.

Boudin’s was started in 1849 during the California Gold Rush by Isadore Boudin, an immigrant who just wanted to perfect the European bread making process. What developed from there is one of the best tasting things that have ever been created, the sourdough.

Today, there are four bakery sites for Boudin’s Sourdough in California, and fourteen Bakery/Café sites throughout the state. And boy has it changed since the early days! Today, at the bakery cafes, one can sit back and enjoy not only the beautiful scenery of San Francisco, but you can become engulfed in the delectable scents that emanate from the bakery area. And today, Boudin’s Sourdough has moved way beyond just selling and serving bread.

At the Boudin’s Bakery Cafes, one can enjoy the many different types of breads, including, of course, their world-famous sourdough. However, they have so much more to offer. Stop in for a warm pastry and cup of coffee for breakfast or a yummy mid day treat. Try sandwiches of all types on the many different breads in which Boudin’s specializes. If sandwiches are not for you, why not come in and enjoy a delicious salad? Pizzas are becoming very popular at Boudin’s, as well as all of the soups. Naturally, the soups are served in a warm and delicious bread bowl. Now that’s truly enjoying the best of both worlds!

For even more of a treat, visit the Boudin’s Sourdough location at the world famous Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. This location not only features a fantastic bakery and café, but also has a top notch museum to keep you and your family entertained. The museum portion traces the history of Boudin’s from the very humble beginnings to the present-day successes of the company. There are many old photographs to peruse and enjoy, as well as some artifacts from the old days. For kids and adults alike, there are some exhibits with which you can interact and learn more about Boudin’s and the actual bread making process. And while you are at it, brush up on your science skills with absorbing the science behind the art of bread making. It is a great experience for the entire family, young and old alike!

Come on in and enjoy the casual, family atmosphere of Boudin’s. The food is phenomenal, the views of the city of San Francisco are marvelous, and you will get a little bit of history along the way.  Make Boudin’s Sourdough one of your must stops for your next trip to the great city of San Francisco, and you will definitely not be disappointed.
