The museums within a short walk of the plaza include the Museum of New Mexico located in The Palace of the Governors, the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum, and The Museum of Fine Arts. The first of these is focused on Southwestern history and culture and, as such, is a logical starting point for first time visitors to the area. The last includes works by Taos and Santa Fe masters as well as contemporary artists. The four museums on Camino Lejo are all oriented towards folk, Native American, and Spanish Colonial art. Bataan Memorial Military Museum & Library
Originated shortly after World War II, this museum's focal point is the brave men of the 200th Coast Artillery Regiment, a group which unfortunately were lost to enemy action on Bataan. This museum's collection will take you on a journey through the history of Native American people from ancient times to the modern day. See various artwork and cultural pieces from such indigenous tribes as the Navajo, Pueblo, Apache, and others.
