Georgia Tourism and Vacations

The State of Georgia has a rich history and varied geography. Southwestern Georgia is cherries, peaches, and pecans rolling green hills and forests. It's also textiles, paper, cars, chemicals, and furniture manufacturing. Here many plantations have been preserved and turned into commercial properties of one sort or another like bed and breakfast inns. The northwestern corner of the state, often referred to as the Historic High Country, is Chattanooga, incredible Appalachian scenery, Lookout Mountain. The state's northeastern corner is all about the Blue Ridge Mountains, recreation, hunting, and fishing. The region southwest of Atlanta is commonly called "Presidential Pathways" since Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Little White House" was here and Jimmy Carter lives in Plains. Jimmy Carter's peanut farm is here. The city of Columbus is high-tech, manufacturing, and Fort Benning. To the southeast of Atlanta is the Historic Heartland of Georgia. Here's where Macon and Athens are located. Augusta is here, often touted as a great place to retire. Lake Oconee is golf; Clarks Hill Lake is fishing and hunting. Vidalia onions from the Magnolia Midlands put the sweet in Georgia. Finally, Savannah is the treasured heart of the southeastern coast with its historic district and many preserved and restored buildings. Okefenokee, Cumberland Island, and the golden Isles are here as well.

The Chattahoochee River passes through the northwestern corner of the city of Atlanta and provides most of its water. The metropolitan area of Atlanta accounts for nearly half of Georgia's population and is without a doubt the South's premier financial and commercial center, more than justifying its moniker as "The Capital of the New South."
