New Jersey Tourism and Vacations

The State of New Jersey is known as The Garden State. The reason for this is quite simple really: much, perhaps most, of the state is engaged in commercial agriculture. New Jersey can be thought of as consisting of six geographical regions: the Delaware River, Gateway, Greater Atlantic City, Skylands, Shore, and Southern Shore regions. Trenton, the state capitol, is located in the Delaware Region. This is where George Washington crossed the Delaware River during the Revolution. The battles of Trenton and Princeton were fought here. History buffs will want to visit the restored Old Barracks in Trenton, and Nassau Hall in Princeton, where the Continental Congress met. The Gateway (Of Freedom) is not just a suburb of New York City, but a region ripe with history and bubbling over with contemporary excitement. The Meadowlands is here where fans can cheer on the Jets, Giants, Nets, or Devils. Greater Atlantic City includes many attractions beyond the Boardwalk, casinos, and beaches. It's a golf Mecca, and the Abescon Lighthouse is a 19th Century artifact not to be missed. Skylands is the region where nature maintains its preeminence. Wolves, bald eagles, and Appalachian trails are here for the wild at heart. Feel the cold at Jockey Hollow where in 1779 Washington's army shivered. Then there are the Shore and Southern Shore regions being respectively to the north and south of Atlantic City. Most travelers to New Jersey from out of state head to Atlantic City. That's not to say that many don't visit other parts of the Garden State, but, in terms of sheer numbers, Atlantic City is the number one destination of visitors. So, reasonably enough, we emphasize the Greater Atlantic City Region when we talk about New Jersey.
