Taos Attractions |
| Taos attractions certainly begin with the historic plaza at the center of town. The American flag is flown day and night on the plaza and Kit Carson sat up evenings to ensure the flag stayed up. Nearby Taos Pueblo has been continuously occupied for over a thousand years. The famous San Francisco de Asis Church with its painting The Shadow of the Cross is 4 miles south of the plaza. D.H. Lawrence produced many literary works while a resident and his ranch is now a museum. Art galleries are the main summer tourist attractions and each summer there are several art festivals. Mable Dodge Luhan is credited with enhancing the appeal of Taos to artists, welcoming Georgia O'Keeffe, Ansel Adams, and others to her salons. All were attracted by the natural beauty which remains the principal attraction in Taos, NM. |
